Without German citizenship

You are automatically entered in the electoral register if you are at least 18 on election day, have had your primary residence in Munich for at least six months – since 22 May 2026 at the latest – and are not excluded from voting. Your election notification will arrive by post.

With German citizenship

You may also be eligible if you additionally hold a foreign citizenship or have been naturalised for no more than twelve years on election day. You must apply to join the electoral register by Friday, 6 November 2026 – by email to briefwahl.kvr@muenchen.de or by post to KVR Wahlamt, Ruppertstraße 19, 80466 Munich.

In person or by post

You can vote at a polling station or by post. A polling card lets you vote at any Munich polling station, but completed postal-voting documents are not accepted there.

You can distribute votes among candidates from different lists (panachage) and give an individual candidate up to three votes (cumulative voting). Important: never cast more than 40 votes in total, or the ballot may be invalid.
